Breakfast Ideas for Dieters

“Breakfast is the most important meal of the day.”

You’ve heard this many times before and you may even believe it. But it doesn’t make it any easier when you’re rushing out the door in the morning and you’re already late for work. It’s easy to say, “Oh well. I’ll grab something on the way to work or take an early lunch.”

But the reason the saying has been around for so long is that’s it’s true. Breakfast really is the most important meal of the day; especially when you’re trying to lose weight. When you skip breakfast you’re setting yourself up for failure for the rest of the day.

Don’t sabotage your diet plan for the whole day by not taking time for an energizing breakfast.

So how do you eat a healthy breakfast when you’re on the run?

Plan ahead. Decide the night before what you’re going to eat for breakfast the next morning. Make sure you have everything within easy reach so it will be ready for you.

Try to add some variety to your selections. Nothing will cause you to give up quicker than getting tired of eating the same thing every morning.

Here are a few breakfast ideas that are quick, easy, and healthy:

  • Fruit and veggie smoothies – Use frozen fruit to save a little time and money
  • Boiled eggs – Always have a few of these ready to go in the refrigerator. Sprinkle with paprika or some salt free lemon pepper.
  • Whole grain bread with almond butter
  • Omelet with veggies
  • Breakfast burrito – scrambled egg and salsa in a wheat tortilla
  • Yogurt and fruit
  • Whole grain cereal with low-fat milk and some berries
  • Vegetable frittata – Make a large one and then put slices in the freezer
  • Cottage cheese and fruit
  • A whole grain muffin and a banana
  • Protein shake with frozen fruit
  • Whole grain pita with turkey
  • Grapefruit
  • Turkey bacon
  • Homemade granola
  • Low fat or high fiber cereals with almond milk

Be sure and read the labels and make sure the ingredients meet with the type of diet plan you’re following.

If all else fails, at least keep some protein bars in your desk at work. Again, read the labels carefully. Some are higher in sugar than others. They may not be the best choice, but it still beats a sausage biscuit from the drive through.

Remember, don’t be tempted to skip breakfast because you’re in too big a hurry. You’ll be starved by mid-morning and you’ll be scouring the break room for stale donuts. If they’ve already been devoured by your greedy co-workers you’ll be forced to raid the vending machines.

If you don’t want to get up fifteen minutes early to fix breakfast, then get something ready the night before that can be refrigerated. Place grapes or berries in a baggie so they’re ready to grab as you rush out the door.

Don’t sabotage your diet plan for the whole day by not taking time for an energizing breakfast.
